Atkinson Morley's Hospital
406 NU/1/2 · Sub-series · 1938-1996
Part of St George's Nursing Collection

Records relating to nursing training at Atkinson Morley's Hospital. Note that AMH was always affiliated to St George's (beginning as a convalescent home for St George's patients), and that in the post-war period trainee nurses from St George's routinely undertook placements there to gain experience in neurosurgical nursing. Researchers interested in AMH should therefore also consult the general St George's registers sub-series (NU/1/1).

Part of St George's Nursing Collection

Records relating to nurse training at Bolingbroke, Battersea and Putney hospitals, whose training schools were amalgamated (c. early 1960s?) to form the Battersea, Bolingbroke & Putney Combined Training School (Battersea and Bolingbroke having already merged previously). Following the NHS reorganisation of 1974 (by which time Battersea General Hospital had already closed), these records were transferred to the South West London Group School of Nursing (based at St James' Hospital, Balham) and subsequently St George's District School of Nursing.

Epsom area hospitals
406 NU/1/16 · Sub-series · 1950-1995
Part of St George's Nursing Collection

Registers and training records relating to nurse training at hospitals in the Epsom area, including Epsom District Hospital, West Park Hospital, Manor Hospital, and St Ebba's Hospital. The last three of these formed part of the 'Epsom cluster' of mental hospitals, though St Ebba's (which was also affiliated to the Carshalton School of Nursing) was changed in 1962 into a hospital for the mentally handicapped.

These records were presumably transferred to Kingston following the merger of Epsom and Kingston schools of nursing (c. early 1990s): the typed labels affixed to many of the volumes appear to have been added at a later date.

Grove Hospital
406 NU/1/3 · Sub-series · 1929-1974
Part of St George's Nursing Collection

Nurse training records relating to the Grove Hospital (originally the Grove Fever Hospital), Tooting. Note that the Grove became a branch of St George's in 1954.

The records are written on a London County Council form ('Nursing Service – Record of Training'; after 1950 the LCC heading changed to Wandsworth Hospital Group) and include the following information: name, date of birth, parents'/guardian's address, education, dates of training and leaving, lecture attendance, examination marks, ward reports, and conduct marks. A majority of the records also have additional Quarterly Ward Report (or 'Sister's Report on Probationer Nurse') forms inserted, and sometimes other documents (correspondence relating to requests for references, written coursework, Fever Training schedules, etc).

Kingston Hospital
406 NU/1/10 · Sub-series · 1929-1993
Part of St George's Nursing Collection

Records relating to the training of nurses and midwives at Kingston Hospital (latterly Kingston & Esher School of Nursing). Because St George's formed a joint faculty with Kingston University in the 1990s, these Kingston registers ended up being transferred to the St George's nursing collection.
