Medical notes: 'This patient was originally admitted under the care of Mr Keate [Robert Keate] with fracture of 2 or 3 ribs on the right side from accident (probably the 3rd, 4th & 5th). He had some cough, and complained of pain on the right side for two or three days, in consequence of which it was thought necessary, after applying a few leeches, to take blood from the arm, by which his more urgent symptoms were greatly relieved’
