Medical notes: 'No history of scarlet fever or acute nephritis obtainable. He had rheumatic fever in 1880. He had been employed much in public houses, and had drunk very freely with frequent excesses. He was an in-patient under Mr Pick [Thomas Pickering Pick] Jan 12-June 20, 1881 with fractured femur. His sight failed about 6 weeks before admission, & he was much reduced by morning vomiting. He had epistaxis for 4 days before admission under Mr Carter [Robert Brudenell Carter] on Nov 12 with retinal haemorrhage'
