Medical notes: 'This woman was admitted in a dying state, pulseless and cyanosed, and lived a few minutes only. She had borne twelve children, and had been for the most part in good health. No history could be obtained of rheumatism of other serious illness, and it was stated that her habits were abstemious in the matter of alcohol. For six months she had been extremely short of breath upon the slightest exertion. On May 20th she took to bed on account of increased dyspnoea, and soon became unable to leave it. During her transference to the hospital she became unconscious'
