Medical notes: 'No family history of tubercular disease. The child was said to have had no previous illness. Six weeks before admission it was attacked by vomiting and diarrhoea with bloody motions. It did not recover but lost flesh greatly and began to cough. About three days before admission it developed stiffness of the neck and left leg'
