Medical notes: 'History. Father died of diabetes: mother's father from consumption. Subject to tough and epistaxis: disliked fat. Cough from July 1877: insidious onset and steady increase. Haemoptysis ('2 pts [pints]') at the end of October: Occasional shivering since. Much mucopurulent expectoration for 7 or 8 weeks. Wasting for three: Occasional vomiting. No night sweats: bowels costive: no oedema of legs'
