Medical notes: 'The child came from 7X Peabody Building, Ebury Bridge. The mother did not know that any cases had lately occurred there. There was no history of infection. A child belonging to the same family died some years before of ‘diphtheria and congestion of the lungs’. The disease was acquired at the same address & whilst living there (In 1885 there were many cases of diphtheria at Peabody Building. This was the first case which came to St George’s 1888, another came in June)’
