Medical notes: 'This woman was admitted into the surgical ward with an enlargement of the thyroid body of some 20 years standing, rapidly increasing during the last year. There was also a tumour on the scalp, looking not unlike a sebaceous cyst but less moveable, of some 7 months' growth and about the size of an orange. No head symptoms of any kind'
