Quite well till one day early in March, when he found his ankles swelled on getting up and his urine of a 'dirty yellow' colour. Swelling increased and extended upwards: appetite failed a week later. The abdomen swelled about 5 wks [weeks] after the first onset of the attack. He entered Middlesex Hosp. [Hospital] on May 2nd where he remained till it closed. He suffered from dyspnoea and pain in the waist on eating from that time. The swelling never lessened. He was then transferred to St Geo [St George's Hospital]'

Sensation was stated to be perfect. […] History. No history could be obtained of any satisfactory nature: The patient appeared to say that the onset of his attack was quite gradual, but as to how long time it was spread over, his statements were confused and contradictory'
