Whilst there he developed pain in the Rt [Right] iliac fossa, a high temperature and definite resistance over the appendix region. When readmitted he was very ill – a hard mass could be felt in the Rt [Right] iliac fossa, obviously a large abscess. He says he had never previously had any abdominal symptoms other than bilious attacks'
