She had also been laid up for bronchitis and attacks of an asthmatic nature. Drowsiness and thirst had been comparatively recent symptoms. Progressive failure of vision had been coming on for a month. There had also been a fit within the three weeks preceding admission. Much cramp in the calves and paraesthesia of the lower extremities. Nothing of import in the family history. His mother was observed to be definitely alcoholic, and there were not wanting signs in the facial aspect of the patient herself pointing to alcoholic indulgence'
