St James' nurse personal album

Unlabelled album of black and white photographs (with some handwritten captions) apparently taken by a nurse who trained/worked at St James' Hospital, containing the following inserted note from Heather Bond, chair of the St George's Nurses' League (14 Apr 2000): 'Photograph album of a nurse at St James Hospital Balham in 1927 – Bought in a carboot sale in 1999 by Mr Pat Fry who thought it should be in the hospital archive so gave it to Alex Baker, business manager.'

In addition to shots of St James' nurses and buildings (often on the roof), the album also contains holiday photos of Ramsgate and Bournemouth, and portraits of family members.

Student nurse record binder: Not completed, G-L

Metal-backed binder containing records of student nurses who entered St James' Hospital in the 1950s-1960s but did not complete their training, arranged alphabetically by surname (G-L – no records for the second half of the alphabet are extant in this collection). Each individual record includes the following information: name, address, non-resident address, next of kin, age, date of birth, religion, country of origin (for records from 1960s onwards), marital status/maiden name, education, previous occupation, dates of training and leaving, number of lectures attended, study days, examinations, health record, sickness and special leave/holidays, and 'particulars of training' (dates and types of ward experience, with brief reports).

The records generally have a passport-style photograph affixed to the top right-hand corner.

Student nurse record binder: Male nurses, completed

Metal-backed binder containing records of male student nurses who entered St James' Hospital (sometimes in conjunction with Netherne Hospital, Surrey) in the 1950s-1960s and completed their training, arranged alphabetically by surname. Each individual record includes the following information: name, address, non-resident address, next of kin, age, date of birth, religion, country of origin (for records from 1960s onwards), marital status, education, previous occupation, dates of training and leaving, number of lectures attended, study days, examinations, health record, sickness and special leave/holidays, and 'particulars of training' (dates and types of ward experience, with brief reports).

The records generally have a passport-style photograph affixed to the top right-hand corner. Occasionally additional documents (transcripts or correspondence relating to references) have been inserted.

Clara Jeynes photo album

Brown album – inscribed on the inside cover '"Jacques", with love, 1934' – containing black and white/sepia photographs apparently taken or collected by Clara Jeynes, who trained as a nurse at St George's. Includes images (with handwritten captions) of St George's Hospital (including theatres), Hyde Park, Princess Mary's Wedding Day (1922), the British Empire Exhibition at Wembley (1924), other workplaces in Walsall and Southport, and various personal photographs (including a group labelled 'Memories of Surrey Sundays'), a few of which have been inserted loose.

Brown album labelled 'Photographs' containing black and white press photographs of the new outpatient department at St James' Hospital (including its opening by the Earl of Onslow, 1953) and the preliminary training school for nurses, with handwritten captions. The skin of the body was generally brownish, but scattered all over the trunk, limbs, head, and neck there were areas where the pigmentation was concentrated either into patches of considerable size, as large as a shilling or in a few instances larger, or in small discrete patches resembling freckles'
