Medical notes: 'There was no family history to be obtained from this patient and he persisted in stating that he had never been ill before - On June 6th he had sudden sharp pain in his right side - He sweated and shivered and very soon breathed with difficulty - On June 10th he noticed in addition to these symptoms that he had a sore place on his lip - On the 5th he spat up 'blood' [...] When seen on June 21st the patient was obviously extremely ill'
