Pain in L [Left] hypochondrium, increased at night, after food, or on inspiration; cough, dyspnoea, and occasional palpitation commenced, and continued. Shivering lasted two days. [months] the pain left her: the other symptoms persisted. She lost flesh from the first: appetite failed after 6 mo. [months]. For 9 wks .[weeks] before admission she suffered from pains on movement about the hips and coccyx. For 6, she had felt her legs numb, and the ground appeared soft under her feet, giving way where they were panted, and rising up again as they were lifted. For five weeks she had been in bed, unable to walk at all'
