Medical notes: 'The child had suffered from a 'cold' since its birth. A 'fit' occurred suddenly on the day before admission lasting about ½ hour during which it turned 'black in the face' and had rigidity of the limbs. There had been no diarrhoea and vomiting. For some time after the fit the child had great difficulty in getting its breath. On admission it was well nourished. Pulse 108. R. [Respiration rate?] 76. There were Bronchitic sounds scattered thr [through] both lungs, but no evidence of consolidation'
