He was brought to the hospital in a state of collapse, with icy cold extremities & cold breath. The medicines given & the free administration of wine & brandy were of no avail in rallying him. From what was ascertained it seemed that for six weeks he had been very much out of health but continued to do his work until the 2nd when he was compelled to take to bed. Delirium came on during the night of the 3rd. He had never complained of sore throat. The room in which he slept was a damp & cold one & from its want of comfort & convenience the medical gentleman who saw the case recommended taking the man to some hospital’
