Medical notes: 'This patient was first admitted into the hospital under the care of Dr Page on 30 August 1848 with general dropsy which was said to be of 9 weeks’ duration. The legs were very extensively anasarcous, the abdomen gave very distinct fluctuation and the right arm, & surface of chest on right side were also anasarcous. Compexion was very dusky. She had constant cough with purulent expectoration’
