Medical notes: 'The previous history of this patient was to the effect that a fortnight before admission he was suddenly attacked with pain in the right iliac forsa which spread across the abdomen. He vomited, sweated, and shivered. This was on May 20th - His symptoms abated till the 31st - On that day he had a recurrence of pain accompanied by some diarrhoea - This persisted till Sunday June 10th when the pain became worse than it ever had been and its distribution more general over the abdomen'
