Medical notes: 'This man dated the commencement of his illness to his having been engaged, in his business of gardener, in pulling up some decayed vegetables, the smell of which was very offensive, ten days before his admission. He was seized with sickness, & found himself unable to return to his work, and two days after was attacked by diarrhoea which continued up to his admission’
