Medical notes: 'Seven days before admission patient ate some rabbits and mushrooms. Two days after this while at his work in the morning he was seized with moderately severe pains in the lower part of the belly. The bowels had been thoroughly opened that morning before the attack. His pain continued and, on the same night he vomited several times. The bowels remained closed for the next two days and then diarrhoea set in. Vomiting ceased three days before admission. The H.P. [House Physician] reported than on admission the whole abdomen was tender and distended and that there was shifting dulness in the flanks'
