Medical notes: 'A policeman, whose general health has always been good. Six years previously he became ruptured on the right side & has since worn a truss. The rupture has not come down for 6 years. On evening of Dec 2nd he had a desire to defecate after dinner & [?] a small, hard motion was passed & since then there has been total constipation. He began to vomit at night & has ejected everything he has taken’
