Unlabelled brown photo album

Brown suede-covered album (unlabelled except for 'Album' stamped in gold on the cover) containing various black and white/sepia photographs of nurses outside and inside hospital buildings, as well as men in military uniform (c. First World War?) and personal photographs of days out rowing, houses, etc.

As none of the images are captioned, it has not been possible to ascertain where or by whom they were taken, though at least two have the name 'C. H. Kent' [?] written on the reverse, and the loose inserted items also include a Christmas card to a 'George' from an 'M. Axtell'.

North Middlesex Hospital album

Blue hardback album (with gold 'Photographs' stamp on the cover) containing black and white/sepia photographs of nurses and wards/buildings at North Middlesex Hospital, Edmonton, as well as images of holiday locations (Torquay, Dartmoor, etc.), personal portraits, tennis matches, etc., some of which are captioned (though no names are included). A copy of a photograph of Victoria Hospital, Kingston has also been inserted into the album, though it has no obvious connection to the volume.

Clara Jeynes photo album

Brown album – inscribed on the inside cover '"Jacques", with love, 1934' – containing black and white/sepia photographs apparently taken or collected by Clara Jeynes, who trained as a nurse at St George's. Includes images (with handwritten captions) of St George's Hospital (including theatres), Hyde Park, Princess Mary's Wedding Day (1922), the British Empire Exhibition at Wembley (1924), other workplaces in Walsall and Southport, and various personal photographs (including a group labelled 'Memories of Surrey Sundays'), a few of which have been inserted loose.

Grove Hospital

Reproduction of a single black and white photograph of a group of staff and patients (holding a banner from '4B ward') outside the Grove Hospital, Tooting.

Note that this image dates from before the Grove was absorbed into St George's in the 1950s (but after it had dropped the 'Fever' from its original name of Grove Fever Hospital); for later images of the Grove site in its St George's era, see NU/6/2/1/6.

St James' nurse personal album

Unlabelled album of black and white photographs (with some handwritten captions) apparently taken by a nurse who trained/worked at St James' Hospital, containing the following inserted note from Heather Bond, chair of the St George's Nurses' League (14 Apr 2000): 'Photograph album of a nurse at St James Hospital Balham in 1927 – Bought in a carboot sale in 1999 by Mr Pat Fry who thought it should be in the hospital archive so gave it to Alex Baker, business manager.'

In addition to shots of St James' nurses and buildings (often on the roof), the album also contains holiday photos of Ramsgate and Bournemouth, and portraits of family members.

Epsom, Kingston, etc. album

Black/brown album labelled 'Epsom Hospital / Kingston Hospital / Queen Mary's Hosp.' containing black and white photographs of nurses, doctors, child patients, hospital buildings and Christmas/recreational gatherings at Epsom District Hospital (1943-1952), Kingston County Hospital, Cassel Hospital (Summer School, 1950), and Queen Mary's Hospital for Children (1952-1954), as well as other personal and holiday photographs (of Oban/Arran, Cornwall, Somerset, Egypt, etc).

Most of the pages are annotated with captions (including mention of the children's specific diseases), although the identity of the album's creator remains unclear.

'St James Hospital Balham & some HPC' album

Black album labelled 'St James' Hospital Balham & some HPC [Hyde Park Corner]' containing black and white photographs mainly taken at St James' Hospital (and presumably some at Hyde Park Corner [?], though these are not clearly demarcated). Includes images of hospital buildings and wards, nurses socialising and studying, gardens, a ball/dance, a theatrical revue, dinners, etc.

Jean Meadows photo album

Album labelled 'Career' containing photographs featuring or relating to St George's nurse Jean Meadows (née Veronica Jean Cruise), including scenes of nurses, wards, Christmas festivities, royal visits, etc. Also includes press cuttings about visits by two different Duchesses of Kent (Princess Marina and Katharine) and an inserted certificate of completion of the St George's tuberculosis nursing course (1957).
