St James' and related hospitals
Parte deSt George's Nursing Collection
Set of alphabetical files containing correspondence relating to requests for references/transcripts – often for the purpose of registration in North America – from nurses who trained at St James' Hospital or others that were incorporated into the South West London Hospitals Group School of Nursing (subsequently the St George's District School of Nursing), including the South London, Bolingbroke, and St Benedict's. Copies of transcripts and original training records are sometimes enclosed.

Copies of transcripts and original training records are sometimes enclosed.
Parte deSt George's Nursing Collection
Correspondence between teaching staff in the schools of nursing at the Royal Masonic Hospital (Ravenscourt Park) and St George's Hospital relating to study programmes for Royal Masonic students on secondment to St George's for paediatric training. The letters are accompanied with copies of proposed study day programmes and timetables.

St George's School of Nursing stock book
Parte deSt George's Nursing Collection
Notebook labelled 'Stock Book' containing inventories of classroom and office equipment at No 7, Knightsbridge (the address of St George's Hospital School of Nursing), divided up by location or type (e.g. instruments, glassware, linen). The written date range of the book is 1948-1965, but it also contains a taped-in receipt from 1932 and numerous loose inserted documents including lists of missing equipment and a typed list of 'Equipment taken from 7 Knightsbridge to the Grove Hospital in Apr 1960'.
St George's School of Nursing lecture fee book
Parte deSt George's Nursing Collection
Notebook with the full title of 'Fee Book for Nurses' Lectures and Examinations from 1 Jan 1952 to Dec 1958' containing lists of payments to lecturers and examiners at St George's School of Nursing. Most pages are signed by matron Muriel Powell or deputy matron Eileen Rees, and stamped by the accounts department; some pages also have Ministry of Health audit stamps.
Parte deSt George's Nursing Collection
Oversize volume labelled 'Kingston Hospital Nurse's [sic] Report Book' containing alternating pages headed 'Day nurse's report' and 'Night nurse's report', used to record observations on the condition of patients admitted to the hospital, listed by name.
Parte deSt George's Nursing Collection
Alphabetical address book containing postal addresses (and sometimes telephone numbers) of people and institutions. Although it has no label or date, it can be assumed to be from one of the St George's sites (possibly the Grove?) as it includes the names of St George's staff (and has entries such as 'Hospital Car Service (Tooting area)'); the approximate date range can be inferred from the inclusion of Viscount Ingleby (who did not receive that title until 1956) and 'Tite Street [i.e. Victoria] Hospital for Children' (which closed in 1964).
An additional page of typed addresses has been inserted into the volume.
Manor Hospital ward controlled drugs record book
Parte deSt George's Nursing Collection
Book labelled 'Ward controlled drugs record book' from the Nurse Education Centre at the Manor Hospital, Epsom, containing printed forms for recording amounts of drugs obtained and administered. Apart from some brief entries on the index page, the book is entirely blank; it appears to have been printed in 1979.
Psychiatric nurse application register
Parte deSt George's Nursing Collection
Register labelled 'Psychiatric nurse training' containing lists of names and addresses of applicants to training courses, with dates and remarks, and an alphabetical index at the front. The hospital/training school it relates to is not explicitly mentioned, but it is presumably Kingston, as there is a column headed 'Sent to L.G. on', which stands for Long Grove, the mental hospital affiliated to Kingston.
New entrants documents register
Parte deSt George's Nursing Collection
Alphabetical register labelled 'New-Entrants Documents' containing lists of names and signatures with columns headed 'Education Certificate' and 'Birth Certificate' stating whether these documents were checked. It is not clear which institution or course these were 'new entrants' to, but the book is in the same format used by Kingston: a label on the front stating 'Psychiatric Courses from Sept 1969' has been crossed out.
Parte deSt George's Nursing Collection
Register of purchases apparently made on behalf of Kingston School of Nursing, including textbooks, equipment, stationery, and journals. A typed breakdown of the 1983-84 budget (referring to correspondence with the South West Thames Regional Nurse Training Committee) has been stapled in.
Parte deSt George's Nursing Collection

iii) Atkinson Morley's Hospital, Wimbledon: Rehabilitation Centre – Floor plan at level 91.00, Jul 1964

Parte deSt George's Nursing Collection
Document (fastened with treasury tags) with the full title 'Out-line [sic] Schedules of Accommodation for New Teaching Hospital and Associated Medical, Dental and Pre-clinical Schools' containing detailed 'schedules of requirements' for the various wards and departments planned for the new St George's hospital site, with estimated areas in square feet.
Phasing and Allocation of Expenditure
Parte deSt George's Nursing Collection
Document produced by the architectural firm Watkins Gray with the full title 'New Teaching Hospital and Associated Medical, Dental and Pre-clinical Schools at Tooting, SW17 for the Board of Governors, St George's Hospital, SW1: Phasing and Allocation of Expenditure' (Jun 1966) containing projected costs (broken down into three phases) of building the new hospital.
Parte deSt George's Nursing Collection
Set of 16 cards (fastened with a treasury tag) containing typed notes on the furnishings/materials and layout of different rooms/areas in St George's Hospital, Hyde Park Corner. The first card has 'Slides' typed at the top, indicating that these cards may have corresponded to a set of slide images; the inclusion of value judgements in the notes (e.g. 'Good illumination – not troubling patient' and 'Carpet, Plain colour – never again?' suggests that they were made with a view to evaluating aspects of the old hospital in preparation for designing the new one at Tooting.
Parte deSt George's Nursing Collection
Documents relating to the Salmon Committee, which was set up in 1963 (under the chairmanship of Brian Salmon, and also including St George's matron Muriel Powell) to advise on senior nursing staff structure, and resulted in the Salmon Report in 1966. St George's was one of the hospitals selected to participate in a pilot scheme to implement the recommendations of the report.
Much of the material in this sub-series appears to have belonged to Joyce G. Whitehead, a hospital nursing officer at the Ministry of Health.

Folder containing annotated 'Block and holiday programme' tables for 1966-1969, a 'Review of Nursing Staff Establishments', and handwritten tables listing the nursing establishment of hospitals in the Bromley Hospital Management Committee. Several of these documents are labelled 'Miss [Joan] Nash': Nash was a former nurse tutor at St George's who went on to work for the Southeast Thames Regional Hospital Board and was seconded to the Department of Health during the implementation of the Salmon Report.
