Medical notes: 'The child lived at a village near Amersham in Buckinghamshire. She was in good health till July 1887 when she had acute rheumatism. On Christmas day 1887 she suddenly lost the power of moving her left arm and leg. She recovered power in her left leg so that she was able to walk about: the arm improved more slowly’
