Robust man: accustomed to take 2-3 pts [pints] beer daily: no illnesses: ailments, or peculiarities of constitution, except habitual costiveness. Venereal sore and suppng.[suppurating] bubo at 20. Five years before admn [admission], attacked while working in a damp shop, with sore throat, aphonia, dry cough and sneezing: - the last remained a few days only: the sore throat and aphonia for 4 or 5 mo [months]: the cough till admn [admission]. From the same period he suffered from severe substernal pain, increased after eating; - from vomiting, which occurred on an average once a week, and lasted a few hours or a day; - from diplopia; - from wasting and occasional night sweats. Bowels costive. Urine scanty and turbid when passed. The pain increased and the vomiting became more frequent during the year preceding admission'
