Student nurse record cards

Loose record cards (Roneodex brand) containing the following information about individual student nurses: name, address, age, marital status, father's profession, previous experience, religion, date of entry, dates of leave, wards worked in, brief Sisters' reports, and sometimes final reports upon leaving and details of subsequent employment. Some of the cards have additional documents attached (copies of reciprocity forms/references, transcripts, and related correspondence).

The cards relate to c. 977 nurses who entered St George's in the 1940s and 1950s, though some of the attached documents date from as late as the 1970s and 1980s. They have been sorted alphabetically by (married) name: cards were manually updated and refiled under the new surname when nurses married.

Kingston Hospital

Each record includes the following information: name, age, date of 19th birthday, dates of entry and leaving, number of lectures attended (listed by subject), marks gained, and dates certificates were awarded (preliminary, final, CMB [Central Midwives Board]). In some cases the original name has been overlaid with a paper strip featuring a different name.
