Ring binder labelled 'Hospital final exam papers' and stamped 'St George's Hospital Nurses' Library' containing copies of St George's final exam papers for nursing courses from 1966 to 1978
Five miscellaneous letters written by Florence Nightingale over several decades, apparently collected as memorabilia and with no obvious connection to St George's:
letter describing her experiences with the Deaconesses of Kaiserwerth, Germany [written double-sided on thin paper, so difficult to read], c.1850
letter relaying a message from Lady Canning that 'no more nurses are required at present in the East', 19 Jul 1855 [enclosed in card frame]
letter to Dr C. B. N. Dunn, requesting that he intervene with the overseer of a mill so that a girl who works there might be relieved of 'stooping work', and complaining about an uncooperative servant, 3 Nov 1880
letter to 'Messrs Mitchell' complaining about the quality of white bread ['it has often been not baked enough: quite pale-faced the crust'], 21 Oct 1885
Christmas greeting to a Miss Dr Macdonald, 26 Dec 1893
two envelopes addressed to Nightingale, one bearing the seal of the Crown Princess of Germany, c. 19th century [mounted on board]
Letters of support/congratulation received by Powell, mostly written by fellow nurses and members of the public in response to a 1969 television appearance in which Powell criticised the 'pay as you eat' scheme for charging nurses for their food and apparently stated that she would be prepared to chain herself to the railings of Parliament to oppose it.
Also includes letters from the artist Leslie Kent (thanking Powell for 'all you have been doing to ameliorate the lot of patients in hospitals') and Hugh Gainsborough (congratulating her on her new job in Scotland and enclosing an article on 'The Myth of the Acute Hospital'), and a list of 'Donations to Dame Muriel' at a 1969 Nurses' League meeting.
