Four months ago, on waking in the morning, found right arm numb from shoulder downwards – Soon arm became painful and swollen especially about axilla where there was tenderness – All power was lost – Under treatment slowly recovered use of arm which however has never been so strong as previously – About same time a severe attack of palpitation of heart – This has recurred and has been increasing in frequency – Pulse in right wrist has never appeared since arm was bad – A month ago whilst raising his left arm rather high he felt sudden slight numbness in the limb similar to that which he felt in other arm but much less severe – In a few days this passed off without having given much trouble'
