Five weeks before admission, while employed in a house where two people were lying ill with influenza, she had a sudden attack of shivering and pain in the back. After this she was almost entirely confined to bed with what a medical man called ‘congestion of the lungs'. She lost flesh to a considerable extent, but improved gradually till May 16th when a second shivering attack occurred with stitch on the right side of the chest'
