Medical notes: 'This patient was admitted into the hospital in consequence of a severe blow on the back of his neck received half an hour before, caused by a fall from a height of about five & twenty feet. He was unable to stand, move his shoulders, or rouse his head erect & complained of pain in the neck. He was not collapsed. His tongue much coated, & his bowels were evacuated involuntarily as the lied upon the bed; but his drunken condition prevented the full extent of his injuries from being ascertained at the time of admission’
