Medical notes: He was an Inpatient in 1929 under Dr. Bellingham Smith, complaining of pain in the rectum. He said that he had passed a lot of pus per rectum three days before admission, and that this relieved the pain. A hard tender swelling was felt per rectum on the left side of the anterior rectal wall. He was treated with enemata and was discharged two weeks later, feeling well. He was admitted to the Fulham Infirmary in March 1931 and an abscess was opened just above Poupart’s ligament. Four days before his admission here his left leg began to draw up.
