Medical notes: 'Admitted with symptoms suggestive of duodenal ulcer of 3 years duration. Bismuth meal showed considerable delay in empyting of stomach. On 5.5.23 Mr Ewart performed a laparotomy and found a chronic ulcer about 1 cm in diameter 3 cm on the duodenal side of the pylorus. The other organs were healthy. The ulcer was not treated locally but a no-loop posterior gastroenterostomy was performed. Immediately after the operation the patient began to vomit profusely and almost without remission'
