He never had haemoptysis, and though generally troubled with cough had little or no sputa as a rule. On April 29th 1891 upon rising from bed at 8am he shivered and sweated. In the evening he had stitch upon the left side of the chest'

In August 1889, in February 1890 and again in May 1890 he had attacks of colic which was probably of a simple nature. On April 17th 1891 he was suffering from pain near the left ankle. Upon admission into this hospital 3 days later he was found to have an erysipelatous affection of the lower part of the left leg. The inflammation rapidly subsided, and he left the hospital on April 25th. It had been observed during his stay in the hospital that the first sound of the heart wwas remarkably muffled so as to be quite inaudible above the 4th rib'
