Medical notes: 'This old man fell down in the street the day before his admission & fractured the thigh, crepitus being felt at its upper part near the trochanter major. There was shortening for about an inch & the foot was rotated outwards. He had suffered from paralysis some time before the accident, & had recovered in a great measure, but he always felt weaker on the right side (the side paralyzed) on which the injury took place’
