Medical notes: 'It appeared from this patient’s account, that ever since Christmas he had been attending to glandered & sick horses, but had remained in very tolerable health up to a fortnight before admission. At that time he experienced severe pain in the loins, accompanied by rigors, loss of appetite and inability to sleep, and that this shortly succeeded by great muscular depression, a sense of constriction & oppression at the chest, and the formation of pustules and tumours in various parts of the body’
