Cover inscribed Queen’s College Cork [Ireland]. Inside front cover pasted with Queen’s College Cork notice that the volume was awarded as a prize to Ferdinand [?] in 1860. Pasted on flyleaf a letter from R.R. James enquiring after the first edition of Gray’s Anatomy (‘I wonder if the copy of the 1st edition of Gray is still in the library. I expect it is; I don’t know if you have ever heard how it came to the library? It was presented by Artlett, who in my day was the dissection room porter, a queer little old man whose son ‘Dave’ was Buckmaster’s bottler worker in the physiological laboratory’), 14 Mar 1958

Medical notes: He was an Inpatient in 1938 with inoperable carcinoma of the rectum. Cystoscopy and colostomy were performed. He attended the Out Patient Department during 1939 with much haematuria and some pain. He was an Inpatient in January 1940 when a sigmoidoscopy showed a large inflammatory mass. Biopsy of this showed one small areas of early glandular carcinoma. He was sent to Atkinson Morley Convalescent Hospital. Following this he again attended the Out Patient Department complaining of further bleeding and irregularity of the colostomy. He was readmitted in November 1940 with acute pain in the right loin.
