Medical notes: She was quite well till Christmas 1927, since when she felt poorly. She had loss of appetite and severe headaches. She was treated by a doctor for high blood pressure. She had had three attacks of unconsciousness, the last one three weeks ago. The attacks last about half an hour. After an attack the patient seemed ‘fagged for the rest of the day’. On April 7th she had indigestion, pain and had haematemesis of about a pint (dark red blood). This recurred twice on the following day.
