Patient was admitted with compound dislocation and fracture into ankle joint – A large ragged contused wound at under side of joint through which tibia and fibula projected. Dislocation was reduced under Ether, the wound dressed antiseptically and the joint placed in a fracture box. Patient did well till Nov [November] 4 up to which time he suffered less pain that might have been expected considering the severity of the injury. On the date (Nov [November] 4) after a restless night complained of some stiffness about neck and some difficulty in swallowing – Masseter a little hard – Apparent spasm when swallowing. Pulse quiet – Temp [Temperature] 102.8'
