Medical notes: 'This man was admitted into the hospital at 12.15pm on the 28th of December with a gunshot wound situated above and to the left side of the umbilicum, about the size of a shilling & of irregular outline [….] He was out & about shooting (at 9am) & in order to get a shot he had climbed up a high bank, with a hedge above, his gun, which was held by a companion (during his ascent) was passed to him through the hedge, when by some means or other [it] went off, causing the injuries above described’
