Medical notes: 'This man, who had been an out-patient under the care of Mr Johnson [Henry Charles Johnson] since July last for a stricture of the urethra of several years’ duration, after having had a catheter passed on the 24th of March, relieved home & experienced a rather severe rigor. On the following day Mr Johnson was requested to see him & found him suffering from the premonitory symptoms of common fever, for which he was treated by a medical man at his own home’
