Medical notes: The woman had rheumatism in 1884, but had no other serious illness. She was married nine months before her first admission, but was never pregnant, and the catamenia were regular till six weeks before she came to the hospital, when they ceased. She seems to have been ailing somewhat for about two years, when at Christmas 1889 she first noticed swelling of the left side of the abdomen.
