Medical notes: 'The patient said he had had ‘brain fever’, scarlatina and measles about 10, 8 and 6 years before he came to the hospital. He had had no other illness. On the night of July 13th he went to bed in a state of health. On the morning of the 14th he woke up at 7.30. He then had severe pain at the upper part of his abdomen’
