In 1874 he had a mild attack of apparently quotidian ague, but none before or since. In November 1878 he was for a few days an in-patient here, complaining of having had asthmatic attacks. He had suffered for many years from asthma in the winter, and in 1888 was for a time an inmate of Reading Hospital for this cause'
