On October 5 he complained of pain over external angle of right brow, where there was found to be suppuration under the scalp; an incision was made and some pus evacuated. On October 17th he was suddenly attacked with right hemiplegia, and on enquiry it was found that he had had a blow on the head in the situation of the abscess 15 months before. He was then transferred to Mr Pollock [George Pollock], who at once trephined the skull over the site of injury’
