She complained of continual noise in her head, and always said that she felt she should go out of her mind. She left the hospital considerably relieved, but was unable to return to her work. She was brought to the hospital with a report that she had had a fit on the previous day, in which she had become quite unconscious, and since that had been violently delirious’

Medical notes: 'This woman, the mother of 6 children, was admitted with encephaloid disease of the left breast. It appears that 4 days after her last confinement 6 months prior to her admission, the breast became inflamed & an abscess formed, which broke at the end of a month, & discharged pus copiously. At the end of 6 or 7 weeks it healed & a similar abscess formed in the right breast. The child was then reapplied to the left breast & the flow of milk again became established, but ulceration taking place around the nipple continuing to increase, the child at length refused to suckle. A few days after the child was weaned, some hard lumps were discovered at the lower part of the gland, which gradually increased in size without much pain. She was then seized with rheumatic fever, acute in the befinningm but subsequently chronic’

He managed to crawl to the door of the shop & summon a passer-by to his aid. At first the paralysis was complete but now there is some degree of power, but total anaesthenia continues. He says that his speech was also affected at first, but now there is no paralysis of any of the muscles of the face or tongue’

Medical notes: 'This patient was admitted in a low feverish state connected with disease of the urinary bladder. He had a hot skin, frequent pulse and dry tongue; & was not in a condition to give any account of his complaint, but it appeared from the information learnt from his friends that he had for some time suffered from disease of the prostate glands, & of late had had much difficulty in passing his urine’
