Bowels rather costive: previous health otherwise good. A little out of breath and 'nervous' for 12 mo [months], since her mother's death. Otherwise quite well till 4.45 p.m. on the 13th, when she found to be powerless. The loss of power gradually extended up the arms and down the legs, and she fell to the ground. By 5.15 the limbs were completely paralysed. She vomited that evening after taking some medicine provided by a chemist. The bowels were confined till admission: the urine had to be drawn off by the catheter. On the 15th she shivered a good deal: the catam. [catamenia] appeared in the evening'
