Press cuttings about or referring to Muriel Powell, including reports on public appearances and pronouncements, honours, etc., some with photographs. The earliest item – 'Two Girl Guides Save Curate' (Daily Mirror, 10 Jul 1933) – refers to a 'Gertrude Powell', but this was apparently Muriel; the other girl guide was Mary Gliddon (see Nurses' Voices interview, NU/7/2/42).

Includes:

• St George's Hospital Nurses' League Minute Book, 1951-1985
• letter from Honorary Secretary Ann M. Hewson (Dec 1985) about the closure of the League, enclosing typed minutes for the 1985 Autumn meeting (with related correspondence, 1985-1986)

Correspondence received by June Hutton (née Shires), including Christmas and good luck/congratulation cards/telegrams from friends and family (one of which contains a sprig of dried heather), receipts, and letters from (amongst others) matron Muriel Powell. Also includes a 2006 cover letter addressed to Carol McCubbin from Brenda White (who donated items on Hutton's behalf).

Black and white group photographs of student and staff nurses, many featuring matron Muriel Powell. Some are annotated with names or accompanied with a typed list. Includes at least one photograph of nurses from Queen Mary's Hospital, Roehampton who were based for part of their training at St George's. Also includes two older water-damaged photographs of student and staff nurses (c.1910s-1920s) mounted on oversize boards, which can be identified as St George's from the list of names written on the reverse of one of them (which includes future matron Helen Hanks).

Two different ceramic 'St George and the Dragon' ornaments (possibly Staffordshire, c. late 19th century?) with labels attached, the first of which states 'Given by Muriel Powell to Gwen Gardiner as a leaving present on her appointment as Matron of St Mary's, Paddington' and the second of which states 'From the effects of Jean Matthews [error for Meadows?] née Cruise'

Printed copy of the article 'Leadership and innovation in nursing seen through a historical lens' by Ruth Harris, Janette Bennett and Fiona Ross, published in the Journal of Advanced Nursing (2013). The article makes use of the Nurses' Voices interviews 'to explore nurses' archived accounts of Matron Muriel Powell's management and leadership style and the impact of this on the implementation and stability of innovation in the workplace'.
