No attacks of retention ever: no instrumentation. General health good'

He had never had Acute Rheumatism, and had been well up to Xmas [Christmas] time except for an illness, attributed by his doctor to a weak heart, 2 years previously. Since the morning of Xmas [Christmas] Eve he had complained of headache. This had increased, and weariness, pain in the back, loss of appetite, and constipation came on. He took to his bed on Dec [December] 30th, and became drowsy and difficult to rouse. Headache and constipation worse: no vomiting. Delirium for 2 days before his adm [admission] and hiccough for 24 hours'

Medical notes: 'Patient was first admitted in March 1901 for a tumour in the popliteal region which was removed. Microscopically the tumour conformed in appearance to an inflamed bursa and not to a sarcoma. Recurrence occurred after 2 months and on readmission, there was found a fungating mass in the right popliteal region with enlarged glands in the Groin. This tumour was found, microscopically, to be a spindle-celled sarcoma. A month or two after patient was again readmitted for haemoptysis, dyspnoea and pain in the right axilla. There was again a small local recurrence in the popliteal space. After his discharge, patient continued to work as a coachman, despite several attacks of haemoptysis and an attack of left pleurisy at Xmas 1903. Haemoptysis had been continuous for the 8 weeks preceding admission. Last admission June 7 1904'
