Medical notes: 'History. I.P. [In-patient] in June last under Dr Rolleston: see M.R. [Medical Register] 826.03 [1903]. Readmitted under Dr Ewart on Dec [December] 16. Patient's illness practically dated from 9 years before admission. He then first began to suffer from epigastric pain and vomiting. During the 9 years he had had about 12 attacks, lasting from 3-4 weeks. The pain came on 3 hours after food and was relieved by vomiting. Early in November, the pain and vomiting recurred. On [December] 12, he vomited about Oiss [1.5 pints] of coffee ground material, ¼ hour after taking some warm milk'

He came into the hospital from time to time, generally on account of dropsy. This affected his right leg to a much greater extent than the left, and he appears to have had some thrombosis about the rt. [right] lower extremity at one time. But besides this cause for oedema albumineria was generally present, and as he had the marks of syphilis about his skin and no very markes cario-vascular changes the question as to the presence of lardaceous disease of the kidneys was discussed, and considered probable. He had a congenitally deformed rt. [right] wrist – a 'club hand'. During one of this stays in the hospital he had an attack of gout'
