Vivien Jenkinson

Set of small-format black and white photographs (printed on Agfa-Brovira paper, with annotations on the reverse) featuring or taken by St George's nurse Vivien Jenkinson. They include shots of other nurses and doctors (including John Batten, Harold Siddons, and Brian Heber) and wards at Hyde Park Corner.

Visitors' books

Two visitors' books signed by nurses visiting St George's Hospital [specifically the School of Nursing?], often from abroad (including Australia and New Zealand, the Caribbean, Africa, Asia, etc). The first book (1949-1969) includes dates, names and addresses, while the second (1953-1977) has an additional 'Remarks' column. The relation between the two books is unclear, as they overlap in date and were sometimes both signed by the same visitor.

Boxed set of 12 metal urethral sounds of increasing diameter, manufactured by Arnold & Sons, London. Also includes one additional loose sound (with 'K7' scratched on the handle) that does not belong to the set.

Unidentified colour photo set

Set of colour photographs taken at an unidentified location (which could be – partly? – St George's, or Kingston?) including shots of staff in a common room and offices, certificates being awarded, social events/parties, hospital wards, etc. Two of the photographs have names written on the reverse – Gill Pedley and Sarah Forester – and a calendar for 1990 is visible in another.

Trends in Volatile Substance Abuse (VSA)

Contains reports on Trends in Volatile Substance Abuse (VSA). This work was transferred to ICDP in c.2009.

The scope of the work was to provide a basis for policy makers and professionals to assess the effectiveness of interventions intended to address the problem of VSA. ICDP was required to publish an annual statistical summary of data in trends in deaths associated with the deliberate inhalation of volatile substances.

The reports include data on the numbers of death associated with volatile substance abuse, broken down by age, gender, local authority area of residence, substance abused and method of administration. They also include commentary on trends in data and key findings.
